[ABOUT]
who we are
case study is a sonic curation project based in southern california, producing jazz nights, artist showcases, and DIY shows for listeners who want the room to actually listen.
we operate as case study studio LLC — a small, independent outfit, not a venue chain or a promotions company. every show we put on is treated as exactly that: a study. of a room, a scene, an artist's arc, a moment worth paying attention to.
mission
our mission is simple: build spaces where music gets the attention it deserves. that means curating lineups with intention, choosing rooms that serve the sound, and treating the audience as participants in the listening experience — not background noise generators.
values
- sound first. the music dictates the room, the lighting, the flow of the night — not the other way around.
- intentional curation. we don't book to fill a calendar. every lineup is chosen for how the artists speak to each other.
- community over scale. we're building a scene, not a brand rollout. our advisory circle of musicians and listeners shapes what we do next.
- the listening room ethic. rooted in the philosophy of the japanese jazz kissa — spaces built for the music to be the main event, not the soundtrack.
history
case study started as a DIY effort to bring a listening-room sensibility to southern california's live music scene — jazz nights and artist showcases run outside the traditional venue system, built instead around small rooms, curated lineups, and a community of musicians and listeners who wanted something more deliberate than a typical bar gig.
since then, we've produced showcases across orange county and santa ana, built out a recurring jazz sessions series, and started working directly with artists on release events and collaborations. we're small by design — and growing through the people who show up.
